    About this project

    M. Annapoorni from Blossom Trust - Waisenhaus is responsible for this project
Blossom is a charity established in 1993. Through its work in isolated communities of Tamil Nadu, Blossom concentrates predominantly on individuals and families suffering from HIV/AIDS and TB. It addresses these issues through a variety of programs; providing medical assistance, raising public awareness, implementing education campaigns targeting prevention strategies, and providing support to infected individuals and their families.

The Dayspring Home itself is home to 24 children between the ages of 2 and 14. Their parents have either passed away from HIV/AIDS or TB, or are simply not able to look after them as a result of these diseases. Some of the children are themselves infected. The home is a basic yet sufficient, well kept four-room house built from kind donations. There are two bed rooms, a kitchen and a communal hall used for homework, eating and playing games. There are two staff members who live in the home and care for the children.

The home is situated on a six acre organic farm. The main product of the farm is cow’s milk, which is made into yoghurt for the children, with the excess sold. There is one man employed to look after the farm but much of the work is done by the children themselves. Some children for example are getting up at 5am for hand milking of the cattle.

Although the children have come from difficult backgrounds and face many disadvantages, they are incredibly cheerful, loving and hardworking. Before school they help on the farm and do chores around the property, after school they do homework with the older ones, helping out the youngest ones when needed.

Although the ammentities of the home are basic, the children are well looked after; they are able to attend the local government school, they receive regular medical check ups and consume a healthy diet. However, this level of care can only continue with financial support. As Blossom only recieves funding on a project by project basis, there is currently no regular funding for the Dayspring Home. Therefore, we are inviting all our friends and family to kindly donate, if it is feasible to do so, to ensure that these children continue to receive the care that they require.

The total cost of running the orphanage is £380 per month which covers 25 children, the total amount of food, electricity, education fees, medical expenses, as well as small salaries for the four permanent staff members of the Dayspring Home. All donations will go directly to the Dayspring Home.

Any amount would be greatly appreciated; even a small donation can make a big difference in the lives of these kids!
