Weltfrauentag: Boxgirls International
Am Freitag kam Heather Cameron, Gründerin von Boxgirls International bei betterplace.org vorbei. Wieder mal so eine Begegnung, die unsere Herzen höher schlagen läßt.
Boxgirls International ist sowohl in Berlin, als auch Nairobi aktiv (dort unterstützt Barack Obamas Schwester Auma das Projekt) und verhilft jungen Frauen über den Boxsport zu einem gestärkten Selbstbewußtsein und Teamgeist. Heather selbst ist aus Kanada und hat eine Juniorprofessur für Integrationspädagogik und Sport an der FU Berlin. In ihren eigenen Worten:
I love playing with new ideas and finding ways to create exciting projects which get people active in their communities. Currently I am working on two exciting projects: Boxgirls International: a running and boxing project for girls in major urban centres around the world and Social Startup, a non profit organisation dedicated to building the capacity of social entrepreneurs based in Berlin. I studied philosophy and political theory and think of our sports projects as experiments in participatory democracy, civic education and leadership development. I try to carry this enthusiasm to my students at the Freie Universitatet in Berlin.
Nach einer Stunde Austausch über Boxen, Spenden und Netzwerke war der Funke auf Yvonne, Josefina und mich längst übergesprungen. Nun wollen wir 1. in unserem Büroloft einen Boxsack aufhängen, 2. den nächsten Teamausflug im Boxring am Marheineckeplatz verbringen und 3. Boxgirls International ganz viel Unterstützung zukommen lassen.
