Turbulent times in Georgia

Georgia has been in the news a lot in recent weeks. Many people, especially young people, have been demonstrating daily for weeks against a proposed law by the Georgian ruling party. The so-called “transparency law” is very similar to a Russian law that has been used there since 2012 to increasingly restrict the media and members of the opposition and exclude them from political discourse.
For this reason the law has been criticized by the USA and the EU and will presumably be sanctioned once it comes into force. The EU is linking Georgia's status as an EU accession candidate to the withdrawal of the law.

While the demonstrations are mainly taking place in Tbilisi, people in Akhalsopeli, where the Hort project is, are also worried. It is simply not yet clear what consequences this law will have for the people - and also for tschweni eso.
However, none of this yet affects the day-to-day running of the after-school care center. Liv from Berlin is currently supporting the center as an intern. She teaches the children English and math, among other things, but has also introduced new games and ways of playing. The children and teachers really appreciate Liv's help. Liv herself describes her experiences here.

At the same time, the teachers have told us about some new needs in the after-school care center. As we were able to see ourselves during our visit in the fall, the kitchen and bathroom need to be renovated and some new equipment will be needed to keep up with the intensive daily use. We are currently estimating costs of 1900 €. Every donation helps!
