About us
OroVerde (which means “green gold”) was founded in 1989 by noted personalities from business and natural sciences. The initiator was Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Engelhardt, long-standing Honorary President of Deutscher Naturschutzring Dachverband der deutschen Natur- und Umweltschutzverbände (DNR, German Association for Nature Conservation – central organization of the German associations for nature conservation and the protection of the environment).
The foundation concentrates on saving the Earth’s ecosystems that have the greatest diversity in species, these being tropical rainforests. Its work focuses on biodiversity hotspots, in other words those areas of the world whose extraordinary variety of species is classified as being particularly worth protecting.
- On the one hand, OroVerde achieves this by implementing specific, local tropical forest protection projects. In this context, OroVerde helps to establish national parks, supports reforestation campaigns and projects involving economic activities that preserve the forest. Together with the local population, OroVerde seeks solutions that make it possible to avoid poverty and, simultaneously, to protect the rainforest as a network of life.
- On the other hand, OroVerde publicizes the subject of the protection of tropical forests in Germany by means of its public relations work and environmental education (competition among school children “Schüler schützen Regenwälder”(school children protect the rainforests), teaching materials).

Wir haben 9.240,73 € Spendengelder erhalten
Dank eurer Unterstützung wurden in den letzten Monaten in unserem Projekt EcoImpulso in Guatemala ca. 400.000 Bäume in Agroforstsystemen gepflanzt. Viele Gemeinden betreiben Baumschulen mit heimischen Baumarten und setzen auf nachhaltige Boden- und Erosionsschutzmaßnahmen sowie eine effizientere Nutzung von Regenwasser. Das Projekt läuft derzeit in 46 Gemeinden innerhalb dreier zentraler Schutzgebiete, die für den Erhalt der biologischen Vielfalt in Zentralamerika besonders wichtig sind.
In unserem Projekt KlimaWald in der Karibik wurden bereits über 1,7 Millionen Setzlinge gepflanzt – darunter Obstbäume, widerstandsfähige Baumarten und gefährdete einheimische Waldbaumarten. So konnten mehr als 2.200 Hektar degradierte Waldflächen und Felder wiederhergestellt werden – eine Fläche, die rund 3.000 Fußballfeldern entspricht.
Die neu gepflanzten Bäume, wie die Karibische Kiefer in der Sierra de Neiba bei Juan Santiago, Dominikanische Republik, stabilisieren die Hänge, verringern Bodenerosion und beugen Erdrutschen vor. Zudem verhindert die Aufforstung oberhalb von Wasserläufen das Austrocknen oder gar das Versiegen wichtiger Quellen.
