About us
The Chimala primary school is a primary school in Chimala in the South West of Tanzania. It is about an hour drive from the next bigger city, Mbeya. The Chimala primary school teaches about 800 students in 7 classes. This means that around 110 students have to squeeze into one classroom, where they share a desk with two other students and learn about kiswahili, tehama (technology, news, communication), historia (history), jiografia (geography), sayansi (science), hisabati (mathematics), kiingereza (english), uraia (civics), maarifa ya nyumbani (domestic science, cooking, washing, sewing…), jumla (general studies), haiba na michezo („personality studies“, „how should you behave“). Classes are taught in Swahili, the official language in Tanzania. Teaching classes as big as that is not easy for the only 18 teachers. One of the subjects that is taught is „tehema“ which is about how to use modern communication technology. However, without electricity, computers/laptops and printers this is not an easy task!
