About us
The AK Shalom für Gerechtigkeit und Frieden (Working Group Shalom for Justice and Peace) was founded in 1981 by students of the Catholic University of Eichstätt and is a non-party and non-denominational working group that works for the protection of human rights worldwide.
Our aim is to make a sustainable contribution by supporting local initiatives that work for minority rights, education and social justice issues, among others. At the heart of our work is the awarding of the Shalom Prize for Human Rights. This award honours projects around the world that work for human rights to an extraordinary degree and often at the risk of their own safety.
We are very proud that we, as a small voluntary working group, are able to award one of the most highly remunerated human rights prizes in Germany, which is also funded exclusively by donations. We work independently of donors and do not accept sponsorships.
