About us
The children learning at the Damascus Learning Center come from families with very low income. These families have not enough resources to provide their children with basic food, clothing and other necessities. In some cases the condition of a child’s health was life threatening as a result of malnourishment. As the DRT community is in the countryside and very poor, parents are either unemployed or earn around 1000 PHP (~16.40 EUR) per month.
The project of Damascus Learning Center already started in 2007 and today we hold classes five times per week from 8 am until 11. The subjects we teach are language communication (English and Filipino), math, science, social development, play, creative and physical development. The DLC also provides the children with school supplies and uniforms.
The objective of the project is to provide access to kindergarten and preparatory education for approx. 40 children of indigent families in DRT each school year. Also provide food and better health as a first need to be able to learn. The bigger objective of the DLC is to achieve universal primary education and eradicate extreme poverty in our community.
