About this project

The war in Ukraine is hitting people with unrelenting force. It is estimated that 18 million Ukrainians - nearly half the country's population - have been affected by the conflict. More than 4.9 million people have already fled abroad, including more than 2.8 million to Poland and another 2.5 million to various Eastern European countries. Approximately 7.1 million people have fled within Ukraine. It is estimated that about half of the refugees are children.
The situation in the country is catastrophic. Shelling and bombardment continue unabated. Thousands of civilians are killed or injured. Infrastructure, hospitals and other public facilities have been destroyed. In the embattled areas, many people are forced to hold out in bomb shelters under devastating conditions. Electricity and water supplies are failing, food is becoming scarce, and the medical care situation is also deteriorating. In overcrowded shelters and emergency accommodation for refugees, there is a threat of an increase in infectious diseases, including Covid-19. Many children and adults are also suffering psychological consequences from the experience of violence and flight.
SOS Children's Villages staff are standing by children and families in Ukraine and neighboring countries.
Extensive relief efforts
Immediately after the outbreak of the war, the humanitarian aid of SOS Children's Villages started:
- Transport to safe areas
- Accommodation in rented shelters or in SOS Children's Villages facilities in neighboring countries
- food, hygiene products and blankets
- medical assistance
- psychosocial support after stress and shock
- Relief measures must be constantly adapted to the changing situation. In addition to acute emergency aid, affected families should also receive long-term support.
With your donation you enable short- and long-term relief measures for children and families in Ukraine and the region.
