About this project

We are the association Tansania - Zukunft durch Sonne, consisting of students and teachers of the rbz Steinburg in Itzehoe.
Sustainable development aid for Tanzania - that is our mission, which we have been successfully pursuing since 2009.

What do we do?
Our work is based on the actual needs on the ground. This means that the locals tell us what is really lacking in order to improve living conditions in the long term. One of the biggest areas is education.
What we take for granted is lacking in Tanzania: lighted classrooms, a sink to clean the blackboard, and decent toilets. To invest in education, Tanzania lacks money and know-how.
We bring the know-how with us: As students and teachers of very different professions. But we are also dependent on donations to finance the aid.
What have we already achieved?
We have installed solar panels on the roofs of KIUMAKO School and Kiumo VTC, which provide reliable light for learning and guarantee the operation of the school computers. We have trained students in first aid procedures.
We installed a system that collects rainwater and turns it into clean drinking water. We also expanded the sanitary facilities and the school kitchen and connected them to the cistern. In addition, we have learned a lot about the cultures through exchanges with the locals.
What do we need money for?
On the 2023 project trip, the goal is to continue our previous work at Kiumo VTC. We are in close contact with the vocational school in Tanzania to plan our joint project. On the last project trip in 2020 we already installed a solar system and provided technical assistance to the Kiumo and Kiumako. The further development of this first project at the Kiumo VTC should now be the establishment of a new profession, the solar technician. The goal of the solar technician training is to learn the skills and abilities that are necessary in Tanzania to be able to earn a living with the construction of sustainable energy sources. To this end, our students are designing curricula, teaching sequences and learning vehicles for the solar technician training that are specifically tailored to the needs of the Tanzanian trainees. In the course of this, they deal intensively with topics such as renewable energy generation, sustainable development and photovoltaics. Furthermore, upcycling projects, cooking together, first aid courses, a large-scale tree planting campaign and handicraft projects are planned, which aim at sustainability and joint activities.
