Ukraine Aid in Georgia

The war in Ukraine calls for our solidarity with those affected by the violence. Millions of people are fleeing to safe areas to escape the military escalation, to Europe and the South Caucasus to Georgia and Armenia.

Act for transformation has partners in Kharkiv and Odessa who have long been committed to peaceful coexistence and carry out peace projects. In our "act for transformation - caucasus office" we have hired an employee for the Ukraine aid who supports arriving refugees in Georgia and networks with other aid organizations.

We offer a regular parent-child group in accommodation in Tbilisi supervised by a Ukrainian psychologist. The mothers can talk about the effects of flight on the family and the issues of arriving in a foreign country. Painting therapy and games are offered to the children to help them forget what they have experienced. There is also a Georgian language course for those who are interested. The German weltwärts volunteers in Georgia are actively involved and Georgian volunteers are included.

The basic care that the Georgian state can offer the refugees is not nearly as comprehensive as in Europe. That is why we also offer individual help, such as support for special medication, financing of translation and legal costs and possibly support for onward travel. In particular, people who evade military service are given advice and legal assistance.
