About this project

Since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, one-third of the Ukrainian population has been forced to flee. The UN speaks of the largest displacement crisis in the world. Currently, it is estimated that there are 6.2 million so-called Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within the country and around 14.8 million refugees in Ukraine's neighboring countries. Among them are also many young people: Two-thirds of all children in Ukraine have now had to leave their homes (as of 02.11.2022).
In Germany, even we are now feeling the effects of the war, especially through the increased cost of living and a possible shortage of gas in the winter. As for the situation in Ukraine, we hear frightening reports from our local partners: In many regions, targeted attacks on critical infrastructure have left people without functioning electricity, water and heat supplies. Under these conditions, the upcoming cold winter can hardly be endured and it is to be expected that the number of Internally Displaced Persons will increase.
That's why we at Schüler Helfen Leben are calling to be #WeiterSolidarisch with refugees from Ukraine with our winter donation campaign!
At the beginning of the war, we started emergency aid projects for people seeking protection with our local partner organizations in Ukraine and its neighboring countries. We want to continue supporting them in the cold season:
- In Chernivtsi in western Ukraine, your donation will provide emergency aid for internally displaced children and young people and their families in the form of food, clothing and hygiene items, as well as shelter.
- In Lviv and other locations in Ukraine, together with our partner organization, we have set up psychological counseling as well as recreational and educational programs for children and young people.
- In Lublin and Kielce (Poland), as well as in the Republic of Moldova, our partners stand ready to support arriving refugees.
At Schüler Helfen Leben, Germany's largest youth-led aid organization, we have been working for children and young people affected from war for 30 years - in Southeastern Europe, in Syria, and now in Ukraine!
Join us and be #WeiterSolidarisch this winter: Every donation can save lives!
