About the Solidarity Partnership
The solidarity partnership between the cities of Hannover and Mykolayiv, which was unanimously approved by the Council of the City of Hannover, was officially signed by Mayor Belit Onay and Mayor Oleksandr Syenkevych on September 15, 2022. It is a city cooperation with the intention to provide targeted and needs-oriented assistance in Mykolayiv. The aim is to alleviate the humanitarian crisis that has arisen in Mykolaiv since the beginning of the war of aggression, to assist in the restoration of municipal infrastructure and to lay the foundation for a long-term friendship. This includes both the implementation of relief transports that deliver urgently needed goods, such as food, baby items, medicines or technical equipment, and the introduction of educational packages to help strengthen and rebuild the local school infrastructure.
In addition to improving the living conditions of the people in Mykolayiv, the solidarity partnership also helps to defend the democratic order in Europe. Through mutual exchange, support and cohesion between the two cities, a contribution is made to peace and stability in Europe.
The Office for International Affairs in the Office of the Lord Mayor of the City of Hannover is the central contact for the implementation of measures and support services as well as the official exchange with Mykolayiv. Within the framework of the solidarity partnership, the City of Hanover works closely with the Ukrainian Association in Lower Saxony and Hanover Helps.
About the cooperation partners
The Ukrainian Association in Lower Saxony (Ukrainischer Verein in Niedersachsen e.V.) and Hanover Helps e.V. have been won as cooperation partners for the implementation of the solidarity partnership in Hanover and are elementarily involved in the active implementation. They are responsible for the collection and transport of the donated goods and compile the educational packages for Mykolajiw.
