Empowering Women

Ariadni Lesvos is a non-profit organization on Lesvos with a focus on empowering women.
 
The women's program is called 'Melina', named after Melina Mercouri, a famous Greek artist, politician and women's rights activist.
Our program takes place in small groups to ensure individual support.
The Ariadni House is a residential building with a light, clean and private atmosphere that allows for some normality and a lot of well-being.

The Melina women's program offers undisturbed “time out” with tasty and healthy meals, with a variety of handicraft activities such as baking, sewing, felting, crocheting and much more.
Depending on their needs and desires, guests at Ariadni House can use the washing machine, mend clothes, use the sewing machine, materials and utensils
We also focus on upcycling used clothing and producing much-needed clothing such as long skirts, warm pants, hats and scarves and much more.
This can be for the guests' own use or for distribution to those in need on the island.
In addition to the practical benefits of handicrafts, these activities always have a relaxing, connecting and sometimes even positive therapeutic effect.

Island excursions let your soul unwind and connect with the nature, culture and history of the island.

In collaboration with 'MSF / Doctors Without Borders', we organize information and exchange times on women's issues such as health care (contraception, sexual violence, sex education for young people, gender-specific organs, menstruation, contraception ...)

We want to empower women and girls to recognize and realize their needs, wishes and rights.
We want to make it clear that women can achieve more together - regardless of their background.
Commonalities will be experienced and topics such as “Living as a woman in Europe, in a democracy, women as multipliers, e.g. in environmental protection” will be discussed.
In relaxed company, surprising things can happen, such as dancing together to music from different countries...
Women of different origins meet at eye level.
