Help for earthquake victims in the region between Syria and Turkey
In the early hours of February 6, one of the most severe earthquakes in the last 90 years shook the border region between Syria and Turkey.
The first 7.8 magnitude tremor and the 6.7 magnitude aftershock brought down many buildings, leaving the people with no chance and buried under the rubble.
In the Syrian earthquake area, it hit a region that was already badly hit by the civil war and the fight against the IS. As if all that weren't difficult enough, the relief and rescue work is now hampered by snow and ice.
People who were able to save themselves were left with what they were wearing at the time of the earthquake. They are exposed to the cold and still hold out there in the hope to find survivors. They are shaken by images of horror and despair. Sadness is written on their faces.
We cannot sit still and watch as the people there wait in vain for help and are sometimes abandoned by their own government.
We have been active in humanitarian emergency aid since 2021 and, thanks to the close connection between social work and direct aid in Germany, we receive calls for help from people who have family and friends in the affected areas. We are either in contact with those affected or can make contact with them and would like to offer our help with your support.
Since it makes little sense from both an ecological and a financial point of view to bring goods from Germany to the crisis areas, we are now collecting more funds so that our team can buy urgently needed relief supplies on site and distribute them to the victims of the earthquake in need.
What’s needed most urgently right now is food, warm clothing, blankets and medical supplies.
Help us so we can help others.
Our team is getting ready to fly to the affected areas to help, coordinate and help set up an emergency aid distribution station.
We will keep you up to date via our blog on how and where the aid is arriving.
