About this project

Doris Braune from Feministisches Frauen*gesundheitszentrum Stuttgart is responsible for this project
The event trip with OMIECH from Chiapas, Mexico, stands for the knowledge transfer and exchange of traditional healing from the global south to and in Europe. Three women, midwives and healers are invited to Germany and France to share their insights, traditions and knowledge at 10 events and to promote togetherness and community through dialogue and encounter. These women live in the region of Chiapas, Mexico, where they accompany and heal people and especially women in the ancient Mayan tradition.

The partner organization OMIECH (Organización de Médicos Indigenas del Estado de Chiapas) brings together indigenous doctors from the state of Chiapas. They are not physicians in the traditional medical sense, but experts in their traditional Mayan medicine.

The target group of the events in Europe are alternative practitioners, physicians and nursing professionals involved in gynecology. The program of the four-week journey will be adapted target group-specifically and need-oriented and take place at 10 different places in Germany, France and possibly Switzerland. In terms of content, health-related topics will be discussed, but also politics, philosophy and world views, as these are closely related for Mayan women. For example, the capitalist logic of growth is a sick and destructive worldview in the view of the indigenous peoples. The situation of the people in Chiapas and the work of OMIECH are also presented, as well as experiences with the pharmaceutical industry and biopiracy.

We have a few issues ahead of us. With this project at betterplace we want to cover the travel expenses! Help us here with a donation and come to our events!
