About this project

Ralf Ledl from Menschen im Dialog e.V. is responsible for this project
Computer skills are becoming increasingly important worldwide and create additional prospects. That's why we want to give students in remote regions of Nepal access to e-learning and IT basics.

Schools in Nepal are very diverse: underpaid, unmotivated or poorly trained teachers are not uncommon in remote regions. Students, on the other hand, cannot choose their school. The key to solving the problem lies in improving the education offered. Modern media motivate and arouse the curiosity of students and teachers. Curiosity is the strongest driver for development. Yet even schools that have the equipment lack the knowledge to use it wisely.

We draw on best practices to introduce e-learning and computer education in remote schools in Nepal:

1. Evaluation (readiness for change, motivation, and existing infrastructure).
2. Community meeting (involvement of parents, school and village community: acceptance!)
3. Implementation (hardware, software, room equipment, wiring)
4. Training (train-the-trainer - e-learning | with every school we learn!)
5. Official handover and public signing of the declaration of commitment by the school principal (binding)
6. Training ICT (train-the-trainer ICT lessons, including hardware, software, Windows, Office)
7. Maintenance, update and repair training (sustainability)
8. Refresher training (2-3 months after start of classes: refresher training, questions and answers)
9. Follow-up support as needed (repair, replacement, problem solving).

The provided learning platform is multilingual (English, Nepali) and works autonomously, so it can be used in remote areas without internet access. Our team has been working on similar projects since 2016 and has many years of experience, based on which we want to help as many schools and students in Nepal as possible. For 2024, we have set a goal to support at least 20 schools. On average, each school incurs one-time costs of EUR 2,500, of which approximately 75% is for materials and 25% for transportation and personnel (trainers, implementation). In order to keep the costs as low as possible, notebook donations from the corporate environment (=high-quality) are searched for and used.

With every donated Euro you enable more than 30 hours* of e-learning for one student in Nepal.
(*with an average of 160 students per school and a useful life of 5 years, mostly even longer).
