About this project

Rex Osa from Flüchtlinge für Flüchtlinge e.V. Refugees4Refugees is responsible for this project
Calls for "increased deportations" are once again being made across the political party landscape these days. What lies behind this euphemism remains in the shadows of public debate.
Scholz recently traveled to Nigeria. His main concern was the political initiation of deportations. This implies that deportations take place without any political responsibility. In consequence people are left alone at the airport without any state assistance, neither from the Nigerian nor the German side.
Every week, the German government charters planes to deport people to their countries of origin. What this means is that people are ripped out of their daily life: People who are firmly integrated in a social environment here, who do not know the country to which they are being deported, who have a job or are about to complete their vocational training. Refugees4Refugees (R4R) accompanies the deportees and offers initial emergency aid in traumatizing situations: an apartment, psychosocial support, food and initial medical care.
For 3 years, R4R has been running the "shelter" next to the airport in Lagos (Nigeria), where people can stay immediately after their deportation from Europe. In 2024, we also expect collective deportations of an average of 30 people per month from Germany and Europe to Lagos. We are already in contact with many of those affected before they are deported and during the detention period. The shelter gives us the opportunity to offer families in particular a place to go straight after landing and accommodation for the next few days. In the shelter, we can document the deportation, conduct interviews with those affected, clarify legal claims and develop prospects for the coming period with those affected.
The rent for the shelter is 3000€ per year.
