About this project

Rex Osa from Flüchtlinge für Flüchtlinge e.V. Refugees4Refugees is responsible for this project
Goodluck Osagiede was deported in May 2022 on the day of his final apprenticeship exam. After writing the exam in the morning, he was picked up by the police in the evening and sat on a plane on the second day of the theory exam instead of at the vocational school in Waiblingen. One month later, he would have had the practical exam for his hairdressing apprenticeship. His instructor is convinced that he would have passed the exams. She continues to support him and wants to enable him to complete his training in Germany. For her company, the loss of Goodluck, who wanted to continue working there after his exam, is a loss. Goodluck now lives in Benin, Nigeria, together with his cousin in the living room of his brother's family. In Nigeria, he cannot make ends meet with his job as the economic situation is consistently unstable.
R4R and his trainer are working with the support of a lawyer to enable Goodluck to complete his apptrenticeship in Germany. We are in constant contact with him. Before Goodluck can get an apprenticeship visa, he has to pay for his own deportation.

Why was Goodluck not granted asylum?
Like so many others, Goodluck was considered by the authorities to be a so-called "economic refugee" and had no right to stay in Germany under asylum law. Nevertheless, he was on the verge of becoming economically independent here.

Why was Goodluck deported during his examination?
The deportation authorities are not interested in whether the people concerned are integrated and what their living situation is. They were interested in filling the plane for the collective deportation and simply took the next person on their list. A month later, however, Goodluck would have completed his education.

Why does R4R support Goodluck?
There are always cases like Goodluck's in Germany. Being considered an "economic refugee" is an exclusion criterion for those affected. R4R supports all refugees, regardless of which status they are assigned. Cases like Goodluck's clearly show that economic migrants can also build up an existence and integrate in Germany, but are ultimately all too quickly rejected by the state structures and deported. You can also see how arbitrary and irrational many deportations are. R4R supports numerous refugees before and after deportation through counseling, financial support, empowerment, mediation, documentation and publicity.

Why should you donate to Goodluck?
Your donation for Goodluck will help him to complete his education and find a future for him in Germany and his family in Nigeria. You are also supporting the efforts of his trainer. And you are supporting R4R in the fight against unjust deportations.
