About this project

Anne Hecker from Verein z. Förderung v. Straßen- und Waisenkindern is responsible for this project
Anne-Charlotte Hecker was born in Germany in 1965. In 1996 she accepted the invitation of First Lady
Janet Museveni to come to Uganda to run a guest house for her. Ms. Hecker was later commissioned to
lead the Ugandan-German Cultural Association as director. She then taught “Food Technology” at the
International School in Kampala for 12 years.
She also worked with Cornerstone Development, a Ugandan aid organization for disadvantaged
children and young people. This resulted in Anne Heckers passion for abandoned babies, street
children, and orphans.
Anne developed friendships with various organizations that work with street children and orphans. Since
small children have to leave the baby houses at the age of 3, the wish was born to build a childrens
home for children 3 years and older.
In over 23 years, Ms. Hecker has been able to gain local experience: she understands the Ugandan
culture and can train her staff in housekeeping and child-caring.
She has a masters degree in home economics and has also completed courses in child psychology,
non-violent communication, and a qualification in working with children with autism and Aspergers
syndrome.
Thanks to the good network she has built over 23 years, Anne Hecker can get support in the mental
area or in finding solutions to difficult situations. She is also happy to pass on her experiences to others
and is a mentor for young people.
Through her cheerfulness and creativity, she has been able to help many children and young people
regain hope despite difficult living conditions.
Anne Hecker herself had to go through many traumatic experiences in her life. However, her faith in
Jesus Christ helped her not to lose courage, forgive, and receive new hope.
Annes greatest role models are Jesus Christ and Mother Teresa. It is, therefore, not surprising that she
wants every child and every employee in the childrens home to experience Gods great love and
healing of the heart.
