About this project
In Niederrad (Triftstraße 34, 60528 Frankfurt am Main) we opened the doors of our Free Shop in April 2024. During the three opening hours per week, people can drop by and hand in items they no longer need as well as find items they have already given away that they might be able to use. The shop, which looks like a living room with a cosy seating area, invites people to linger and will be a place for meetings and events in the future.
It's all about sharing!
We all have something that just collects dust at home or that we hardly ever use. We also constantly need something new, for example because we want to replace broken crockery or need a pair of trousers for the winter. What could be better than sharing things with each other? After all, what some people can no longer find a use for, others can very well use. In Frankfurt, we can see that people want to share on driveways and front doors, in bookcases and swap shelves and on online platforms.
Free Shop - a place for sharing!
To meet this need for sharing, we are setting up the first Free Shop in Frankfurt. The shop will provide a dry home for items that are otherwise exposed to the elements outside driveways, where they can be handed in at low thresholds and are centrally located for everyone to find.
With the Free Shop, we are establishing a serious alternative to stores. We are not only creating a wide range of almost new everyday items that everyone can take with them, regardless of their wealth. We also help to conserve resources by reusing used items.
We need your help!
We are a volunteer-run and non-profit project. In order to be able to run and maintain the Free Shop in the long term, we are dependent on your donations. Help us to realize the Free Shop in 2024 by donating for example for rent, furnishings such as shelves and our public relations work (see "what is needed").
