Swimming pool membrane cover - Poseidon Hamburg outdoor pool

In the current times, in which each of us has to concentrate more than ever on the efficient use of resources, covering our outdoor pool with a film is proving to be particularly necessary for our association. By reducing heat loss, such a film helps to minimise energy consumption and thus significantly reduce CO2 emissions. It mainly helps with using energy sparingly and reducing environmental impact. In addition, the film cover also plays an essential role in water management. Reducing evaporation and protecting against external influences reduces the need for fresh water and chemical additives. It also contributes to a more sustainable use of water resources and supports the environmentally friendly use of chemicals.

Another aspect is the fundamental increase or stabilisation of the water temperature through the planned foil cover. We regularly offer swimming courses for children and adults in our public outdoor pool during the summer. Learning to swim, in particular, requires a minimum water temperature. Nevertheless, all other guests and members also benefit from constantly heated swimming pool water.

The planning for the project has been finalised. Our association still needs €25,000 to start the project. As a first step, in spring 2024, a gardening and landscaping company will prepare areas at the respective pools for so-called depots (garages for the pool liner). Concrete angle supports for the depot will then be erected, and the necessary cables for the power supply will be laid. Once the gardening and landscaping work has been completed, the membrane covers should be installed before the 2024 outdoor pool season.

The purchase of a pool cover is associated with very high overall costs and is beyond the financial scope of the swimming club. For this reason, the donations from this fundraising campaign are intended to further contribute to financing the foil cover.
