When a parent goes to prison and does no longer live with the family, the children are suffering tremendously. Low self-esteem, a feeling of shame and uncertainty is becoming an obstacle. The child feels no longer entitled to a good life and cannot reach its potential in life and education.
The initiative for cultural education Krass e.V. is addressing these problems in cooperation with ‘morning tears’ Deutschland e.V. (www.morningtears.org)
Once per week the children of convicts can join a workshop free of charge where they are creative and do art together with their parents under the guidance of an art therapist. They can paint, draw or do sculpture with natural materials.
Using the medium of art we aim to enhance communication between the parents and their children, showing them ways to speak about their worries and feelings, helping them to overcome their fears and trauma. The freedom of the creative process allows them to discover their own talents free from judgement and to develop new self-esteem.
