About this project
Since 2007, borderline-europe has been engaged in civil resistance against European migration and border policies. While EU citizens perceive their global freedom of movement as a self-evident right, people without European passports die daily on their way to and in Europe. Their death is a political calculation and in most cases the direct result of a restrictive and inhumane European border regime that tramples human rights underfoot. With our work we stand up for the right to freedom of movement of all people. We oppose silently accepting the EU's deadly and racist migration and border policies. All people have the right to a dignified life. It is not negotiable. This includes the free choice of residence and access to political and social rights - everywhere!
What is the goal of borderline-europe?
Migration is not a crime, but it is repeatedly addressed as a threat in the public discussion. We are increasingly experiencing a political climate in which racist and discriminatory attitudes are being articulated more and more openly and are gaining social and political approval. Our goal here is to present the increasingly complex migration policy and its effects to a broad public. We want to create an active, political and critical awareness that can counteract the racist structures and the deadly consequences of the policy of closure.
What does borderline-europe do?
- We research and publish comprehensive and well-founded documentation on the events and situation of refugees and migrants along Europe's internal and external borders and externalized external borders.
- We work in transnational networks, bring together different actors and support civil society and activist cooperations.
- We organize and support protests, events and actions in local and transnational contexts.
- We inform on our website and social media about the latest developments in EU migration policy. In our press review, we compile daily news articles of the coverage around the topic.
- We inform about the systematic criminalization of flight and solidarity. We work transnationally with affected people and support them in their legal proceedings, by networking with lawyers, fundraising for legal costs or through public relations.
