THE PROBLEM:
Around 180 million tons of plastic are floating in the ocean. Marine life, coral reefs and other important ecosystems suffer great damage from plastic. Millions of animals die every year as a result of plastic pollution. According to current estimates, up to 20 million more tons of plastic are added every year. Plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to our planet and humanity. Plastic takes many years to decompose, but is not biodegradable and breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces. When plastic breaks down, methane is released. This powerful greenhouse gas is also further exacerbating the climate crisis. Once the plastic has broken down to microplastic, we have no chance to remove it from the environment. We already ingest 5g of plastic (the size of a credit card) every week through air and food.
ONE OF OUR SOLUTIONS: ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN GERMANY AND AFRICA
In order to be able to cope with crises, it is important to understand the problems and connections precisely. Education is therefore the most important means of countering the plastic crisis. In our environmental education projects for children, we develop the reasons and consequences of the plastic crisis in a motivating and creative way, as well as measures and behaviors that can be implemented immediately.
WHAT'S SPECIAL: In Germany, environmental education takes place where kids have less contact with environmental protection. In Tanzania, Cameroon and Kenya in poorer regions.
The preparations are complete. As soon as we have covered all the necessary costs (see further donation modules), we can start in Africa!
DONATION BLOCK NO. 1 & MORE CREATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN GERMANY
Elbpirat*innen: In a three-day workshop, children develop an artistic upcycling object on the topic of environmental pollution. For this purpose, the problems of pollution of the environment and oceans through plastic waste will be addressed in advance. A cleanup will also be organized. The themes are then artistically implemented. Both the previously collected waste and objects and scrap obtained in advance (such as old doors, windows, bicycle frames, etc.) are used for upcycling. When it comes to design materials, care is taken to use environmentally friendly materials and to create as little additional waste as possible.
Further similar workshops are to follow.

We would therefore be very happy about any small or large support so that we can start training many ocean protectors.
Sana Mare and the oceans thank you from the bottom of our hearts! ❤
