Hello all,
or as we say in Tanzania: Habari, wapenzi wangu!
In 2023, I was in Basotu with the first chairwoman of Vision Tansania e.V. and the first chairman of the Tanzanian partner NGO Dabavita. There I met Dr. Hayte, a renowned doctor from Tanzania.
In Basotu there is currently poor access to medical care. His vision is therefore to expand the PONA Dispensary medical facility he built in 2019 into a health center. He is dependent on your help for this.
The next step is to build a birthing center with an adjoining laboratory. This should ensure that good medical care can be offered in Basotu and the surrounding area. The aim is to prevent people from having to travel long distances to receive medical treatment.
Current situation
The nearest hospital is 45 minutes away. The route is not paved, which means that the roads are difficult or even impassable, especially during the rain season. Transport has to be organized privately and many people have to choose transport by motorcycle, bicycle or donkey cart. This journey is particularly difficult for injured people and pregnant women.
In addition, treatment at the hospital in is expensive. As a result, many people cannot afford the treatment.
PONA Dispensary means get well soon in Swahili and Dr. Hayte chose the name because that is what it means to him:
Pubilc Oriented Needs Affortability - which means that the facility is open to anyone who needs medical help, even if they have no money for treatment.
In addition to this social aspect, an economic aspect is also pursued; this can only be guaranteed if the health center ist equipped with the necessary facilities.
Next steps
Once the fundraising target has been reached, the construction project can begin. The building should be completed in around four months. Once it has been fitted out, medical operations can begin.
In our discussions, Dr. Hayte repeatedly emphasized how important a trusting and transparent collaboration is to him. All those who contribute to the success of the project are cordially invited to come and see for themselves how the money is being used.
