About this project
Both Bounty and Leo had to undergo medical treatment recently. They are two brave and strong boys, so everything went well. However, the costs have torn a big hole in our organization’s coffers. And there are still follow-up treatments to come: Check-ups, physiotherapy, medication, all of which will cause further costs. We urgently need your help with this! Please help us to offer Bounty and Leo the best chance possible.
Bounty's Story
Bounty is our 2-year-old Cane Corso. He has had a difficult start in life. His owner kept him in an outdoor kennel where he was malnourished and suffered from parasites. To make matters worse, Bounty suffers from an untreated case of epilepsy, which causes him to experience severe seizures. The previous owner denied him medical care and even threatened to just kill him.
Fortunately, Bounty made it to us and snuggled his way right into our hearts with his charming and loving nature. Since we have had him, we have witnessed Bounty’s severe epileptic seizures. At one point, the veterinary clinic kept him in due to an acute epileptic status, which almost caused him to lose his life. He had to stay with the vet clinic for 5 days for intensive (and expensive) treatments. He was put on a permanent medication plan.
Leo's Story
Leo is a Portuguese Saint Miguel Cattle Dog. He was born in 2016 and came to us in a poor condition. A large growth by his eye required surgery and a severe parasite infestation took its toll on him. He also suffers from cataracts and is blind. Leo also suffered a torn cruciate ligament.
The operation on his cruciate ligament was successful. He is now being monitored and immobilized in a crate, wears a cone and requires physiotherapy and visits to the vet for check-ups. These restrictions are particularly hard on Leo, because he is a free spirit and a whirlwind. Still, he remains brave and we are confident that he will get through this difficult time.
Underdog Rescue e.V.
We are a non-profit organization with an animal shelter-like facility in accordance with §11 of the German Animal Welfare Act. This allows us to house, train, place and care for dogs with behavioral problems, health problems or other problems that make them more complex adoption candidates. Since 2017, we have specialized in brawny breeds. Since 2018, we have been committed to helping suffering dogs in Portugal. Our organization was founded with the aim of helping the suffering of dogs and giving them a second chance in life.
Our Team
We are a team of animal friends and protectors. In addition to the organization’s chairperson Alina, we are Chantal, Kim, Desiree, Julien and Paula, and others. We work tirelessly to rescue, care for and place dogs that would otherwise have no chance at finding a loving home. We work with a lot of passion and dedication on a strictly voluntary basis and invest a lot of time and our own money to help dogs in need.
