About this project

KIJUKU from Kinder-und Jugendkunstschule Pfullendorf e.V. is responsible for this project
The Mobile Painting Room is travelling to Cyprus.
The artists Till Schilling, Ivana Pinna (I), Mahaleé Mönig (D), Thomas Keis (ES) are travelling to Cyprus together with the 'Caravan of Humanity' on October 12th. They are bringing the MOBILE PAINTING ROOM to refugee camps around the divided city of Nicosia, with the kind support of the local NGOs Refugee Support Europe and Caritas. In 2024, Cyprus have taken in the most refugees in Europe compared to its population size; there are currently 30,000 refugees on the island. Most of them are families with small children who have fled from the war in Syria.
The PAINTING ROOM is a kind of pop-up studio with tables, easels, brushes and paints that can be set up and dismantled in a short time. Independent of the space, it allows the lecturers to work flexibly. The idea behind it is to give participants the opportunity to express themselves through artistic-aesthetic forms of expression, even with little language knowledge, to immerse themselves in the process of painting and to find complete peace for a few hours. Up to 40 children can paint in the PAINTING ROOM at the same time.

The PAINTING ROOM is a place of peace and "introspection". You can paint freely without criticism from adults and without thematic interference.

The PAINTING ROOM has been realized for seven years now in southern Germany in the districts of Sigmaringen, Ravensburg and Friedrichshafen.
The studio for refugee children and young people is open weekly directly in the accommodation. In 2022, the MOBILE PAINTING ROOM was a guest in Lebanon, where painting took place every day in various refugee camps as far as the Syrian border.

Last year, the PAINTING ROOM was around Dohuk in northern Iraq. The team was in various camps for up to 15,000 people and offered mobile painting rooms for over two weeks. Free from any constraints, far away from worries and sadness, more than 1,500 children and young people were able to live out their creativity.

We need art materials for Cyprus and are now asking for donations so we can carry out this wonderful project.

In order to be able to continue the PAINTING ROOM after we leave Cyprus, we will look for artists in the camps who will then continue to run the PAINTING ROOM. We will leave material in the various locations for a year so that painting can continue on site.

Of course, we also accept art materials as donations !

With every additional donation, we can leave more material on site to set up MOBILE PAINTING ROOMS.
