About this project

Petra K from Esperanza Help for Strays is responsible for this project
We, the association Esperanza Help for Strays, support the animal shelter of our partner organisation Elpida in northern Greece both financially and locally. Around 130 dogs have found refuge and safety there. We also feed and care for around 20 strays in safe places.

We urgently need help to continue to pay for the animals' food, veterinary costs, neutering, parasite protection and medication. The small shelter and its few foster homes are dependent on donations. The support from the local municipality does not even cover half of the actual costs incurred. The animals that have found refuge are emergency cases that have ended up there due to mistreatment, injury or illness. Abandoned puppies that have little chance of survival on the streets or in the fields. Many of them would have died long ago without the care and support they receive. At the shelter, they have not only found a roof over their heads, but also medical care, love and the chance of a new life ♥️

The flood of puppies and abandoned helpless animals has steadily increased in recent months. The animal shelter and the foster homes are far beyond their capacity. Some dogs have been placed in loving families.  Nevertheless, the number of animals to be cared for has risen from around 100 at the beginning of the year to 150. We currently need 1,7 tonnes of food every month!  to feed them all. A bag of food here costs around 18 euros in the wholesale trade. Many of our animals are large and weigh more than 30kg. There are also the costs for medication, medical treatment and neutering.

We have had some sleepless nights and are currently facing a crisis and need your help more urgently than ever. Unfortunately, donations have dropped significantly in recent months and the number of animals in need of care has increased dramatically. We are faced with the heartbreaking decision that we cannot take in any more stray animals. In a country where stray animals often do not survive for long, this would be a certain death sentence for many animals.

We ask you from the bottom of our hearts to help us so that we can continue to be there for our innocent souls and take in new emergencies. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference and save lives. With your donation you give the animals a piece of hope for a better and peaceful life in which they do not have to be poisoned on the street, run over and die of hunger or disease.  Your donation makes the difference. You also help us to provide the rescued animals with food and treat their illnesses on a daily basis. Make sure that our animals have a full bowl of food and that we can rescue more animals in need.

The Esperanza Help for Strays team would like to thank you for your help!
