About this project

Thomas Beckmann from Ukraine-Hilfe Berlin e.V. is responsible for this project
The medics Roman (30) and Roman (32) fetch civilians from contested areas in eastern Ukraine. They evacuate people and are shot at by Russian soldiers. Both Romans wear protective vests and helmets, their ambulance comes from Germany and is full of first aid supplies.

“We work for SOS East,” says Roman. “I have been there since 2022, my colleague since 2014. The aid organization has already brought over 90,000 people from frontline areas, especially in the east.” He and his colleague have also evacuated several hundred people from dangerous places.

The most dangerous mission of the two medics was this spring in the Kherson region: “Civilians were trapped and the checkpoint in front of the village was shot at. When Roman was asked what we should do, he just said: “We have to go through it.” We were literally flying while everything around us exploded. But we managed it and were able to get the people.” He laughs now as he remembers: “The soldiers who met us on the way back told us that they had written us off. I'll never forget this day."

So that volunteers like these two can continue to evacuate people from frontline areas without risking their own lives, they need high-quality protective vests and helmets.

We are raising money to buy this equipment here in Germany and bring it to Ukraine so that paramedics like this can continue to save lives. A protective vest and a helmet cost 1,500 EURO. We initially collect for 20 sets.
