A safe home for girls and young women in Tanzania

We are Hearts of Sunshine e.V. and our organization supports girls and young women in Tanzania.
We are an association run by women for women.

By working with our partner project HIMD (Health Integrated Multisectoral Development), we are actively committed to providing a safe home for girls and young women in Tanzania.
Our partner project HIMD runs a women's shelter in Arusha, a city in northern Tanzania. Girls and young women find refuge and a safe home there. Many of the girls and women living there have had to flee their homes due to the threat of forced marriage or female genital mutilation.

We support the women's refuge primarily with food supplies, medical care and school fees for the girls and young women so that they can go to school. In addition, we have also launched the “Jobs by women for women” initiative and, as part of this, employed a social worker and two teachers at the women's shelter, who enable the girls and young women to train for a profession (dressmaker or hairdresser). In this way, the time during which the girls and young women cannot go to school due to a lack of school fees can be bridged in a meaningful way and they learn valuable professional skills with which they can easily become self-employed after their time in the women's shelter. We also offer three Tanzanian women a secure and well-paid job.
Together with HIMD, we have also implemented various construction projects at the women's shelter, which are primarily intended to make the shelter less dependent on external donations.

The focus of our organization's work is always on appreciation and sustainability.
