About this project

Jan-Eric Dreßler from Nistkästen für Dresden e.V. is responsible for this project
Project: Nature Explorer Saxony – Mobile for Environmental Education and Species Conservation

Our association, "Nistkästen für Dresden e.V.," aims to bring the importance of nature and species conservation closer to children and adults. With increasing urbanization and declining knowledge of nature, the connection to local flora and fauna is fading. Our project, "Nature Explorer Saxony," is designed to close this gap by providing hands-on nature education opportunities and enabling intergenerational nature experiences. We particularly aim to raise awareness of sustainability and environmental protection at events and in kindergartens, schools, and senior centers.

Target Group and Objectives

Our goal is to offer children, young people, and adults in Saxony the chance to experience nature up close and actively participate in species conservation. We want to impart nature experiences and practical knowledge to raise early awareness for topics like species protection and sustainability. With a new vehicle, the "Nature Explorer Mobile," we aim to reach events, festivals, and educational institutions and inspire people with our mobile workshop offerings for nature education. Children, teenagers, and even seniors will have the opportunity to acquire practical skills in handling natural materials and learn about animal behavior.

Approach and Project Planning

Our project consists of several steps:

  1. Acquisition of the Vehicle: The Nature Explorer Mobile will serve as our rolling classroom and workshop.
  2. Vehicle Design and Equipment: The vehicle will receive an attractive design and be equipped with materials to offer nature education on-site.
  3. Event Participation and Workshops: With the Nature Explorer Mobile, we will visit various festivals and educational institutions in Saxony to conduct workshops such as nest box building, animal track casting, and nature tours.
  4. Promotion of Partnerships: We aim to gain local partners and sponsors to support the project in the long term.
Team and Timeline

Our team consists of dedicated volunteers who regularly work in the workshop and support events. We collaborate with local educational institutions and businesses and have set the goal to have the Nature Explorer Mobile ready by winter 2026 and operational for the 2027 season. From there, the vehicle will travel to events in Dresden and throughout the state, also transporting natural materials needed for our workshop activities.

We appreciate any support and partnerships to help promote nature and species conservation across generations with the Nature Explorer Mobile.
