The Anlu Library in Douala, Cameroon needs your support - your donation counts!
The Anlu Library in the Oyack district of Douala, Cameroon, has been an indispensable place for education, creativity and community in the neighborhood since December 2020. Around 400 children and young people use it every month to do their homework, read and take part in the library's various programmes.
These include
- Writing workshops and reading circles
- Comic workshops
- Creative programmes: Wood workshop, drawing courses or craft projects
Thanks to a lot of voluntary work by people in the neighborhood, it was even possible to build a small playground opposite the library as part of the project.
Oyack - children and young people need prospects!
The infrastructural and socio-economic situation in Oyack is precarious: most people do not have their own water supply, there are no permanent roads and no waste disposal facilities. Most people work in the informal sector or get by with casual labor. Apart from the Anlu library, there are no out-of-school places for children and young people to spend time. The Anlu library not only offers them a place to learn, but also a place to retreat to in an often challenging everyday life.
What is special about the Anlu Library?
The Anlu Library has 99% literature by African and Afro-diasporic authors. The rest are schoolbooks of all grades. There are several reasons for limiting the selection of literature to African and Afro-diasporic authors only:

We are currently facing a financial bottleneck. To keep the library running between November 2024 - February 2025 we need 5000 EUR. This will enable us to cover operating and staff costs and thus maintain the library and its creative offer. After that, we also hope to receive long-term funding, which we are currently applying for.
