About this project

Jördis Claure Oviedo from Förderverein Freie Aktivschule Neuss e.V is responsible for this project
We are founding the Freie Aktivschule Neuss (FAN), an acronym that also represents the three pillars of our concept:

1. Frei und Selbstbestimmt lernen – Learning freely and self-motivated
2. Aktiv und Kreativ sein – Being active and creative
3. Nähe und Verbundenheit leben – Living connection and closeness

Starting with the 2025/2026 school year, we aim to expand the educational landscape in Neuss by establishing an inclusive elementary school and an inclusive comprehensive school.

Our vision is to create a space where young people can learn freely and through self-directed learning, follow their natural impulses for movement, and express their creativity. In doing so, we hope to contribute to a society that embraces social and ecological responsibility.

Our schools focus on equal dignity and relationship-oriented interaction. Instead of traditional classes, we will have mixed-age learning groups. Instead of conventional classrooms, we will provide functional spaces equipped with prepared learning environments, including Montessori materials. Rather than relying on frontal teaching, students will be supported individually in their development by a multi-professional team.

To foster intrinsic motivation, creativity through a positive error culture, and self-esteem, grades will only be introduced starting in grade 9.

We need your financial support to establish our school!

In North Rhine-Westphalia, a state-approved substitute school receives up to 87% of its funding from the state starting from the first day of school. However, the remaining costs must be covered by the school’s sponsor.

1. Proof of financial security:
To receive approval, we must demonstrate that we can cover the remaining 13% of operating costs for the first three years. This proof can be provided through donations or small guarantees.

2. Public relations and recruitment:
We need financial resources for public relations activities and staff recruitment.

3. Renovation and teaching materials:
Since our school concept requires a well-prepared and inspiring environment, we need financial support for renovations and teaching materials.

4. Building deposits and insurance:
The school’s sponsor must also advance funds for the rental deposit and insurance for the school building.

We deeply appreciate every contribution!
