About this project

In rural areas of the Philippines, many small-scale farmers rely on water buffalo for farming and transporting goods. However, purchasing a water buffalo is financially out of reach for most, leaving them with high rental costs that reduce their income.
This project supports small-scale farmers and farmworkers in five communities on Negros Island. These individuals live in remote areas and lack access to modern farming infrastructure. A water buffalo can significantly improve their livelihoods.
We will provide water buffalo to selected farmers who commit to caring for the animals, using them for farming tasks, and ensuring the sustainability of the project. After the first calf is born, it will be passed on to another farmer, while the mother buffalo remains with the original beneficiary.
This initiative will be implemented in partnership with CAJDEN, our local partner organization, ensuring fair distribution and proper animal care.
- Identify eligible recipients based on clear criteria (e.g., land ownership, willingness to care for the animals).
- Purchase and distribute water buffalo.
- Train farmers in animal care and efficient use.
- Monitor and support implementation, including passing on the first calves to other beneficiaries.
- Q1: Preparation and selection of beneficiaries.
- Q2: Purchase and initial distribution of water buffalo.
- Q3-Q4: Monitoring and training.
- End of 2024: Passing on the first calves to new beneficiaries.
- Water buffalo: €650 per animal.
- Transport: €50 per animal.
- Training: €200 for the entire project.
- Monitoring and administration: €100 for coordination and local support.
