About this project

Simon Ritz from Meine Bildung und Ich e.V. is responsible for this project
What Problem Do We Aim to Solve?
Our society faces the urgent challenge of addressing the climate crisis. However, discussions and actions are often dominated by one-sided perspectives: people with migration or refugee backgrounds are underrepresented in the climate movement and public debates. This is partly because migrant self-organizations (MSOs) are often only heard in contexts related to integration. Yet, individuals from the Global South often possess valuable knowledge and experience in dealing with the effects of the climate crisis, which could greatly benefit regions like Germany.
Our project Climate Heroes aims to bring these valuable perspectives and voices to the forefront and actively integrate migrant communities into the climate movement.

Who Is Our Target Group?
Direct Target Group: People with migration or refugee backgrounds who are engaged in MSOs or associations or show interest in climate protection
Indirect Target Group: Migrant communities in Germany, reached through actions led by the multipliers

How Will We Proceed?
The project includes:

Qualification Program:
  • Two cycles of 5–8 workshops covering basic and practical knowledge of climate and environmental protection
  • Participatory design that incorporates the perspectives of participants from their countries of origin
Accompanied Practical Phase:
  • Organization and leadership of their own environmental education initiatives within their communities
Consultation and Networking:
  • Ongoing support for multipliers from our team
  • Assistance in building their initiatives and advising organizations on intercultural inclusion in climate protection discussions
Closing Conference/Think Tank:
  • A two-day event where migrant perspectives on climate protection are discussed with stakeholders
  • Outcome: A strategy paper and new cooperative projects
What Do We Need Donations For?
To implement our project, we need financial support for:
  • Personnel costs
  • Fees for workshop facilitators
  • Venue rental
  • Material costs for workshops
  • Travel expenses
  • Hall and catering costs for the closing conference
  • Accommodation for conference participants
Total Costs: €123,060
Covered so far (grants and own funds): €99,060
