Around 85% of the more than 3 million refugees living in Germany have experienced traumatic events, and approximately 30% suffer from depression or PTSD. Limited resources, language barriers, and bureaucratic hurdles make access to care difficult, leaving the majority without the urgent support they need. Currently, only about 5% of the demand for psychosocial support is being met.
Around 85% of the more than 3 million refugees living in Germany have experienced traumatic events, and approximately 30% suffer from depression or PTSD. Limited resources, language barriers, and bureaucratic hurdles make access to care difficult, leaving the majority without the urgent support they need. Currently, only about 5% of the demand for psychosocial support is being met.
This alarming gap in care makes innovative approaches essential to providing fast and accessible help to those in need.
The *WeCare project offers the urgently needed alternative: a digital online counseling service in 10 languages that gives affected individuals easy access to psychosocial support. Professional counselors and interpreters are ready to assist people in acute crises and refer them to local support services. Since August 2024, we have processed more than 200 inquiries, providing concrete help and hope to many.

Yet, despite the great demand, *WeCare is at risk – our funding only secures operations until the end of June 2025. If our financial situation does not improve by the end of April, we will have to cease operations as of July 1 and, regrettably, also reduce our staff. Immediate support is required to ensure the continuity of this vital service. The current political climate highlights the urgent need for stable structures.
