About this project
The personal contact with our disabled partners is the central focus of the association’s philosophy. In order to have a successful collaboration it is very important to have a sound understanding and respect for the culture and religion of these people. This is only possible with mutual trust and dedication. Our team is solely voluntary staff which guarantees that all available funds of the association can completely be used for actual project work.
Our work concentrates on primary care with orthopaedic equipment. We particularly want to reach people who are socially marginalised because of their physical disability. Furthermore, we actively put ourselves out to dismantle fears of contact, discrimination and prejudices against disabled people via educational work. Beyond that we try to raise awareness for these problems by addressing them with young people in Germany in school workshops.
One aim is especially important to us: We want to make it possible for disabled people to participate in social life on an equal footing. We want them to be able to pass educational training or even to do an apprenticeship. This way they will be able to contribute financially to their families and eventually become independent.
To realise our aims we collect wheelchairs, walking frames, sewing machines and if required other medical aids and send them to Senegal. The health care system in Germany normally provides new orthopaedic equipment to people who are dependant on wheelchairs or walking frames. Consequently there is little need for used but still intact equipment. Here we come into play because we collect cast-off material! Donations are mainly given from retirement homes, hospitals and rehabilitation companies as well as from private donors.
Every year the team of “Rollis für Afrika e.V.” ships a freight container with equipment and aids to Dakar/Senegal. This equipment is then distributed by our two people in charge in Sengeal, Omar Laye Ly and Pape Diallo, and other voluntary members to the disabled people in need.
