    About this project

frankline n. from Eagle's Fountain Youth Edge (EFYE) is responsible for this project
According to World Health Organization, mental health is not just the absence of a mental disorder. It is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own full potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. In most rural Kenya societies, poverty, disease as well as ignorance are the key impediments to most people unlocking their full potential. It is this that drove for the formation of Eagle’s Fountain Youth Edge, we use the acronym EFYE.
EFYE was initiated in November 2012 by Frankline Mawira Nyaga the then Vice-president Global Community Development Program in AIESEC Kenyatta University and is now registered as a CBO in Tharaka-Nithi county- Meru in Chogoria ward registration number MAR/CBO/2013/1093.We are committed at providing legitimate avenues for individuals to be more productive. This is in line with our mission: To use the available resources to mentor, nurture and transform by providing a platform for every member of the society to be informed and capacitated to attain their full potential so as to bring up a society that has skilled individuals who are physically and mentally fit and exhibit financial independence through social empowerment.
Having founded EFYE with limited resources to operate on, human resource to run the initiatives we undertake was the biggest short coming I experienced. The international volunteers via a partnership with AIESEC Kenyatta University in their Global Community Development Programme (iGCDP) brought in not just skills and professionalism but also financial support in some instances. We have been able to host interns from Germany, Portugal, China, Japan, Uganda, Tanzania, Brazil, Canada, Romania and Vietnam over the past 2 years. Through the engagement with the volunteers we have successfully structured and run projects that have changed scores of lives including: a jewelry project for the young mothers and girls in the community, a mentorship programme that runs in the local schools to boost education and also a cancer awareness campaign to reduce the rising death rate in the community.
EFYE being a young organization, we have been working at home and the volunteers have to travel for 2 Kilometers every day to access a communal workspace as well as internet. The road to access the working area that is not a conducive working environment for the internationals is dusty and rough so also the dust causes nasal problems. This has not only been tiring but also slows and hinders the efficiency of the volunteers. There is need to get a work space and a fully equipped office to make it easier and less straineous for the volunteers. With the office near to the community, accessibility to our services to the community will also be easier.
