EinDollarBrille e.V. in Malawi
In Malawi, about 80% of the rural population live on pure subsistence agriculture. Natural disasters therefore quickly become an existential threat. Many people have hardly any access to education and health services. Despite the difficult conditions, we were able to provide more than 48,000 people with glasses and carry out more than 180,000 eye tests by the end of 2022.
Cut off from infrastructure
In rural areas far from major cities, establishing basic eye care is a particular challenge. Many people lack the financial means to travel to the city. Especially for these regions, mobile eye camps are organised and the OneDollarGlasses are offered at greatly reduced prices so that as many patients as possible can afford the visual aid.
Educational work in schools
Our school project GoodVisionSchool aims to close a gap in the Malawian health system - because about 15% of school children suffer from defective vision. And about 80% of the teachers would also need glasses. The result: a negative impact on the quality of teaching. That's why we conduct eye health training for entire classes before the school children receive an eye test.
