About this project

The Project:
Over 80 % of Uganda’s population resides in rural areas which unfortunately are severely constrained in terms of social services provisions and associated development. A daunting challenge remains the provision of education to the marginalized rural children. The project „Homes of Hope“ seeks to partially intervene by putting up an essential 2-classroom block to facilitate a safe learning space for more than 100 children in Mugoye village.
The current school in Mugoye is old, damaged and liable to collapse. However, the nearest school is more than 8 km far away and does not have enough capacity for so many children. At the moment, classes cannot be held inside the school building and when the weather is bad lessons cannot take place.
This means I will be part of a team consisting of volunteers from Go Ahead! And local construction workers in Uganda. Within 5 weeks we will construct a new school building. I will be expected to do different tasks like laying bricks, plastering, painting walls etc.
The collaboration with locals shall happen on equal footing in order to enable a respectful, intercultural exchange.
Where will the money go?
The donations I will collect will finance the construction of the school (Architects, cement, scaffolding, bricks etc.). Altogether, a sum of 5.350,39€ is required for construction. My aim is to collect this money together with the other volunteers of Go Ahead!
Why should you support me?
Good karma, baby!
You have the chance to support a transparent project and to witness the entire project flow. I will continuously update you with pictures, videos and impressions on a blog. You will see me sweat, until the last brick is set. In the end, you contribute to over 100 children being able to go to school and study in a safe environment.
Who stands behind this project?
This community-based venture will be executed by joint collaborative partnerships between the Ugandan NGO AVEC International (Assistance for Vulnerable Elderly and Children), the Berlin-based organization Go Ahead!, and the rural Mugoye community members. The necessary Technical Plan and associated Bills of Quantity have been drawn by AVEC International and duly approved by the management of the Homes of Hope project. Procurement of the materials and actual construction work will be undertaken by the Homes of Hope volunteers who will assist community mobilized local labor and supervised by a technical expert.
…and of course me- Dannii.
