Integration through football: #Kickit!
At first sight, they couldn’t be more different. They meet halfway and combine two extremely important things in their lives: the love of football and being different in a "dog-eat-dog" society.
Dr. Kenan Önen is an idealist, visionary and an enabler. Three years ago, as a native Turkish, he founded “Bildung Kickt”, to give back some of his lessons learnt, that football could open doors and opportunities.
But first things first: As an immigrant in the 1970s, he made his move to get out of the “offside”, back into the game. Through hard work and perseverance he completed his PhD. After a few years in working life, Kenan is now where he has always seen himself, close to people who mean so much to him, as the founder of "Bildung-Kickt", a non-profit organization that provides talented young people with education scholarships. Proved to be a success, the project was recently awarded the Hessian Integration Award!
Meet Rami, a dedicated young man with Egyptian roots. He did not have the best prerequisites until Kenan took him into the scholarship program. Every Sunday, their paths cross on the football field and as a team they get one-step closer to fulfilling this dream: to give people chances through football!
However, football alone is not the only thing Kenan Önen wants to convey to the children, because you cant walk through life just playing football, education shapes your character and integrity. In addition to the weekly training sessions, monthly education funds are raised. The children receive individual homework support and weekly seminars as a team, in hope of helping these children start a successful future. Their country of origin or residence cannot stand in the way of them touching ground in todays society.
It is in this exact situation that "Bildung Kickt" picks them up, where it hurts them the least: when playing football, their passion. Football and education come hand in hand and the kids learn how to transfer the values learnt from playing into real life situations.
The expenses for a scholarship add up to 5,000 euros per year. We want to make it possible to give as many scholars as possible the chance to win a scholarship.
