About this project

We would like to invite the audience for a night trip on the boat, where they will have a chance to meet refugees, who have succeeded, in spite of multiple dangers and risks to cross borders and oceans far from Berlin and be here. The trip will be based on Joseph Conrad's colonial critical novel "Heart of Darkness", and will be like an aimless wandering expedition. The narratives, reports and meetings with the refugees and actors will evoke new perspectives. Borders and spaces will be moved, unknown territories will be emerged. Berlin will become a creepy urban jungle - full of mysteries and darkness.
The theater of migrants is a social and cultural exchange platform. Migration and culture are the discursive goals of our interventions in public space. We want for the young refugees to be a part of the socio-cultural theater project, whereby they can participate in the cultural life. This project will help the refugees to be away from their desolated accommodations in mobile homes and gyms. Together with the artists, partly traumatized refugees from Africa and the Middle East, will develop an unique artistic experience, telling their own stories and presenting how newly-arrived migrants go through the dark and unknown land of Berlin.
The young refugees are representives of themselves and they connect directly with the city, artists, other migrants and the public. Theater offers a platform where their voices can be heard. By an artistic dialogue we would like to give a new impulse to the open society. Through constant change of perspective on the river, the view of the public is confused. Boundaries and evoked images no longer appear ordinary and invite to take a more sophisticated understanding of the problems of migration.
