    About this project

    J. Hoffmann von atmosfair from atmosfair gGmbH is responsible for this project
Even before the two severe earthquakes in Nepal in April and May 2015, many people in the Himalayas did not have access to electricity; however, the situation has been significantly exacerbated. It has been estimated that around 600,000 houses were completely destroyed by the quake, and around 280,000 were damaged. Only a few of the people affected found refuge in emergency shelters set up by international organisations. Most people built themselves simple huts from tents or sheet metal in their villages in order to seek shelter from the cold and wet during the monsoon rains. Light, electricity, and heat are usually not available in these emergency shelters.
As an international climate protection organisation, atmosfair has promoted the funding and access to sustainable energy systems in countries in the Global South for the last 10 years. For this reason, we would also like to make a contribution in Nepal so that the people in need can benefit from clean and reasonably priced energy.
As a German partner, forum anders reisen (an organisation whose members commit themselves to sustainable tourism) is there to help. At the beginning of July, atmosfair together with Hauser Exkursionen and Neue Wege (both members of forum anders reisen) took a project trip to Nepal in order to better understand the situation onsite and to initiate concrete relief efforts. We have selected the Langtang/Helambu region north of the capital Kathmandu as the first project area. Many people are familiar with the name Langtang because the internationally known trekking region was severely affected by the earthquake and the landslides that followed. In spite of all of the fateful blows that they suffered, the inhabitants are 100% convinced that they want to rebuild their villages and revive tourism as quickly as possible – they made this clear to us in numerous conversations onsite!
Support us with your donation in rebuilding the village of Chisapani, ca. 40 km north of Kathmandu, with solar lamps, Solar Home Systems and efficient cook stoves. It will go towards light and electricity to charge the inhabitants’ mobile phones, which serves as the only means of communication with the outside world, as well as for cooking a hot meal. The earthquake caused great damage in Chisapani: the ca. 150 inhabitants currently live in emergency shelters they made themselves using sheet metal. Thanks to frequent power failures, there is no reliable energy supply.
