    About this project

    S. Singer from Dhaka Expat Club is responsible for this project
Life for street connected children in Bangladesh is hard. Most families live on less than 100 taka($1.20) a day. Less than what we in developed countries spend on a cup of coffee every day.
Here in Dhaka children who get the opportunity to go to school are expected to work after school to support their families. Children from as young as the age of five collect rubbish, sell stickers and flowers at busy intersections, wash dishes at tea stalls and beg on the street. These are all expected and unfortunately necessary occupations for theses kids.
For 16 years different women's organisations in Dhaka have been giving Dhaka's street children the opportunity to 'JUST BE KIDS" for one day.
The Dhaka Expat Club is proud to announce that it will be coordinating and hosting The Annual Dhaka Street Children's Party on 1st November, 2015
We intend to transport 400 street connected children from 10-15 different slum schools to Nandan's Water Park for a day of unabated fun in a clean and safe environment.
Upon arrival at the Park they will be fed breakfast after which they will receive their wet bag containing a pair of swim shorts a tshirt and towel(these items are important for more than just one day as in an overcrowded city like Dhaka where washing and toilet facilities are communal being able to wash whilst still clothed is important)
The kids will change for 3 hours of swimming , sliding and dancing in one of Bangladesh's only wave pools and waterpark. After swimming the children will receive a dry bag each with fresh clothing and personal hygiene products such as shampoo, toothbrush , toothpaste etc. Lunch will be provided and distributed by our members and volunteers which many children will save most of to take home to share with their families.
As they enjoy some ice cream(a rare treat) they will be entertained with a magicians or theatre performance.
For most of these children this will be a once in a lifetime experience as although the entrance fee to the park is modest by our standards(470tk = $6 U.S.) it is out of reach for most of these children and their families.
At the conclusion of the performance each school will be given boxes of stationary and books to take back to their respective schools.
The kids and teachers will then board their buses for the return journey back to Dhaka, feeling exhausted and exhilarated after experiencing their most exciting day ever.
Our volunteers and Expat Club Members will also head home, exhausted, possibly sunburned and gladdened for having been given the opportunity to give so many children a positive and happy memory as part of The Dhaka Street Children's annual day at Nandon Water Park.
All monies raised will be utilized to transport the children to and from the park, pay entrance fee, supply the children with swimming clothes, dry clothes and school supplies
