They say Moldova is the poorest country in Europe in terms of money. We say Moldova is the poorest in terms of forests: barely 11,6% of the territory in comparison to European average of 45%. And while it is difficult for the common citizens to do something about general economical state of their country, they – we – can certainly do something about the forests. Step forward and start planting trees!
So we, EcoVisio Association and its initiative Seed it Forward, inspired by the initiative “Plantăm fapte bune în România” (“Planting good deeds”) from Romania and driven by our own hearts, plan to make our country more prosperous and its citizens happier by planting fruit forests. Combating erosion, attracting more precipitation, enhancing biodiversity, exploring ecosystem services and promoting the values of volunteering are just some of the objectives.
We have started in the autumn 2015, on 14 November, in the suburban village of Bubueci, Chisinau municipality - by organizing one of the biggest voluntary reforestation actions in our country.
400 volunteers from different locations, institutions, backgrounds and ages have come then and there to revitalize a former landfill. Despite the roughness of land, it has been lots of positive emotions - and so a quarter of the 10,000 trees that we plan to endow this community with, has already been planted. We are going to care and monitor them for at least five years, in order to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.
But this action isn't the only one we wanted to do; that was just the beginning. Hectares of abandoned, degraded land are waiting - both in Bubuieci and around the country. So the experience we have gathered in the past months, as well as the tools we managed to buy and friends that joined us - all of them will go with us into the future, serving for the successful continuation of this project and, hopefully, many others.
So we invite you to join us - either in person, or in a few more trees that will contribute to the greener future of our country and our planet. Let's do it together!
