Support CADUS - Search and Rescue Mission - Mind 'n' Rescue

 According to numbers of the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, around 5000 fleeing people drowned in the Mediterranean in 2016. The reasons to flee and the number of victims aren’t getting less. But the routes taken on the contrary are getting more and more dangerous – the one between Libya and Italy in particular. According to numbers oft he IOM (International Organisation for Migration), one in 19 refugees dies on its way across the sea. 

 

In 2016, CADUS war actively involved in search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean. First, on the islands Lesbos and Chios, where our rescue Speed Boats where stationed. In the central Mediterranean, we provided the SAR teams on the SAR cruiser “Minden”. It was an incredibly emotional, exhausting but nevertheless rewarding experience for the CADUS Crew – especially to be able to accompany a project like “Life Boat” from the beginning on. To be able to share our In-field experiences from Syria or Lesbos when it comes to Crewing, Back-Up and Logistics and then watch it all come to life – amazing! 

During the winter of 2016/2017, our SAR boat “Rezai” was still in field with our partners from SMH. 

 

For 2017, we took the team decision not to actively take on tasks in SAR. Instead, we shared ressources like knowledge, equipment and money with our cooperation partners - like Sea Watch. Let alone from November 2017 to January 2018, the organization was involved in the rescue of 1500 people. 

The rest of the donations from this Betterplace Project is going straight to die HPI (Humanitarian Pilots Initiative). It’s an organization – befriended pilots in fact – that observes and controls the air space over the Mediterranean. They transmit the condition and location of a refugee boat to the rescue directing center and the NGO in the area (like Sea Watch, for example).
