    About this project

    M. Schnurr from Namibiakids e.V. is responsible for this project
In 2016, the Otjikondo School Village Foundation, situated in the North of Namibia, celebrates its 25th anniversary. Since 199 the school offers an education to 200 underpriviledged children every year, giving them the opportunity of a good start in life and prospects of a better future. After 7 years of schooling at Otjikondo, nearly all pupils continue their education at highschool or start an apprenticeship. The school has established an excellent reputation throughout the country – a fact which clearly shows in the number of applications each year. With its unique way of integrating all ethnic groups, Otjikondo has become an example for other schools in Namibia. Many distinctions are evidence therof, but more so the fact that the children themselves love going to school!

The school foundation is financed mainly through donations from either Germany or the UK. Additionally, every child is has a sponsor in Europe. Some donations are specifically collected to secure funds for high school fees.

Otjikondo truly is a unique project in Southern Africa. Former pupils find employment nationwide after they have completed their schooling. Some of the pupils fom the poorest of families end up with in academic professions or work as well-trained, skilled workers in various sectors of industry throughout the country, ie tourism industry.

For Otjikondo’s 25th anniversary we would like to present this wonderfull success story in a 56-paged book featuring the experiences of Otjikondos former exemplary pupils. We would like to thank all past donors for their consistent support in the past, and show that it definetaly has been well invested money – with a postive effect on individual lives and improving the life of many Namibians.
Generally donations have been given to support the education of children at Otjikondo. It is thus very important to us, that all expenses of this exeptional project are financed by donations that have been given towards this purpose specifically. Therefor we have decided to start an individual call for donations to finance the printing of 3000 bilingual copies (Engl / German) in 2016.

To gather all the necessary information ie interviews, photos etc, we, that is, Michael Schnurr, journalist / author, and Claire Stommel, graphic designer / photographer, currently both living in Germany, are planning to visit Namibia in early 2016. Also, we want to make a film of testimonials to show online.
The funds will be split up in 3 parts: a) 1.200€ for a symbolic sum for freelance time, which apart from that, will be our personal donation towards the project, b) 5100€ for printing costs and c) 1500€ for the air fare to Namibia and back. All transport costs and other expenses within the country we will carry ourselves. We are hoping to raise 7800€ in total.
