    About this project

Penelope K. from Gender Equality Media e.V. is responsible for this project
The campaign StopBildSexism fights against sexism in Germany's biggest tabloid newspaper "BILD". We advocate a respectful depiction of all human beings and demand the abolishment of the Bild-Girl (comparable to the Sun's Page-3-Girl). BILD is bought by more than 2.4 million people every day and has an even larger readership (approximately 12 million people). Thus, BILD and the Bild-Girl are part of our everyday life, at German kiosks, train stations and in our living rooms.

The Bild-Girl is only the most obvious example. These images normalize sexism and suggest that it is acceptable to view women primarily as objects for male pleasure. It does not only shape women’s self-perception but also how society as a whole sees women. Studies have shown that the objectification of women in the media is closely related to violence against women.

    What we do:
Our campaign exists since 2014 and our team has grown to approximately 20 volunteers. We work for example on a detailed study of sexism in BILD, analysing the depiction of men and women, we established a large network of official supporters, including politicians and celebrities. Since December 2015 we are an official non-govrenmental organisation.

    Our success so far:
Already over 57.500 people have signed our petition on change.org. We count over 100 official supporters including other organisations, politicians, authors, activists, bloggers and celebrities. You'll find a full list here: bit.ly/1HoZyxO

You'll find videos about our campaign and from our supporters - for example from Selmin Caliskan, head of Amnesty International Germany - under the following link: bit.ly/25CpOEf

We received national and international press coverage for example from The Guardian, Die ZEIT, ELLE, taz und Süddeutsche Zeitung. http://www.stopbildsexism.com/

    Where you come in:

Our campaign has been a huge success so far, but until now we financed everything on our own. In order to be able to continue to fight for our cause, we need your help.
