About this project

Throughout 2016 we will study the B-minor mass of J.S. Bach as an international project choir and orchestra. Finally we will perform three concerts in the Holy Land:
12.28.2016 in Jerusalem, 12.30.2016 in Bethlehem, 1.1.2017 in Nazareth.
Our aim is to set an international sign for peace and peoples mutual understanding. We have no political or missionary intent but want to directly reach the people’s heart with a wonderful masterpiece of music. We are convinced, that the uplifting effect of Bach’s B-minor mass, combined with prayers of peace from different spiritual traditions, will convey to the audience in the Holy Land a vision of hope and peace. Former concerts of the B-minor mass of Bach deeply moved many people and built strong bridges in-between people beyond any religious borders. Two of those concerts took place at the "Concentration Camp Memorial Site Dachau" in 1996 and 2016, please read "News 7".
The project choir, the orchestra, the soloists and more than 130 people from different countries actually adjourn to a long journey, a caravan of peace. At all three concert venues many local people join and help.
Maarten Ophiel van Leer, conductor, choirmaster and soloist, is also the musical director of the concerts. He is continuing a tradition of peace concerts with the B-minor mass of Bach initiated in 1995 by the spiritual teacher Pir Vilayat Khan (1916-2004). He described Jerusalem as the „spiritual heart of the world“. Thus the idea was born to bring this project to Jerusalem during the centennial of his birthday. Organizer of the project is the „Initiative music for peace and peoples mutual understanding“ in cooperation with the "BDLO-Nord e.V., the Association of Orchestras of Northern Germany“.
We would like to invite you to participate in this marvellous event by a donation.
You'll find a detailed description of the cost at the right side of this page. The majority part of the total costs of the project are already borne by the choir participants, who all pay their travelexpenses by themselves
Heartful thanks to all donors and contributors !!!
Cordially,
Maarten van Leer
