About this project

In March 2019, doctors from Munich are heading for the cleft mission to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to operate children with cleft lip and palate again. The doctors are not only helping the children, but also teach the young surgeons, anesthesiologists and surgical assistants on site, so that they can treat patients independently in the future. Last year, we already successfully treated 45 patients in our conjoined mission.
Why you should donate for this project
Because
1. only well-trained, experienced doctors go on the missions,
2. an interdisciplinary treatment i.e. the involvement and cooperation of surgeons, pediatricians, dentists, orthodontists and language therapists, is provided, and
3. the local team is given the opportunity to continue their training so that the treatment will be in their hands in the future and
4. the donation will reach the right places!
----A sustainable and comprehensive care on the highest level and the transparency is very important to us!
Together we can achieve even more!
This mission is a joint mission of Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe and Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation. The doctors operate voluntary, but we still lack medical materials and medicines, transport costs of the children and parents to the hospital and traveling expenses of the German team. With the support and cooperation of the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation and the local hospital, we are able to carry out the first surgery and the post-operative treatment for 250 EUR.
About the organization
This mission is a cooperation of Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe e.V. (German Cleft Children's Aid Society) and Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation in Taiwan. Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe e.V. has been active worldwide since 2002 in providing comprehensive treatment of children with cleft lip and palate and surgeries of affected children from poor circumstances. Noordhoff Craniafacial Foundation started their international programs in 1998 and since then has engaged in organizing and conducting cleft missions, training of medical professionals and the construction of Craniofacial Centers all over Asia.
What is a Cleft Lip/Palate Deformity?
A cleft lip/palate deformity is the most common congenital malformation (~ 1/500 births). The cause is not precisely understood, but both genetic and environmental factors are involved. Areas with poor environmental conditions are particularly affected. Cleft formation can be present on one or both sides of the face and can affect different structures. In addition to aesthetic and psychological problems, it can lead to nutritional, speech and hearing difficulties.
